There is a common expression we tend to say to people who are having a hard time.
“Take it one day at a time.”
But an even better version of the quote is this:
“Take it one day at a time, and if that is too much, take it one minute at a time.”
It is a better version because it holds a reminder to bring your focus to the bite-sized moments of the day. This approach can help us navigate and mitigate those feelings of overwhelm that might crop up. In this moment right now, there is no need to solve or understand every issue. Instead, bring your attention to the problems directly in front of you. Once those are resolved, you can celebrate a win, and either take time to rest, or take on another bite-sized issue.
The beautiful thing about this approach is that it means that we have so many wins in the day.
Did you make it through another minute? That’s a win.
Another day? Thats a win.
On those very difficult and dark days, we need and deserve every single win that we can get. So, take things day by day, and if that is too much, take it minute by minute.
